Common Lousewort

Common Lousewort
This tufted, compact plant has densely crowded leaves and flowers. The flowers of Common Lousewort are pale pink, each with a three-lobed lower lip and a hooded upper lip, emerging from a papery calyx that expands in fruit. The leaves are divided into small, “frilly” leaflets with crisped edges.

Common LousewortLEAVES : Alternate, pinnately lobed, fern-like.

PLANT HEIGHT : 10–25cm.

FLOWER SIZE : 2–2.5cm long.

FRUIT : Capsule in the inflated, hairless calyx.

FLOWERING TIME : April–July.

SIMILAR SPECIES : Red Bartsia; Marsh Lousewort, which has longer leaves.
