The solitary flowers of Grass of Parnassus meadow plant have five white petals with greenish veins and a characteristic and unusual arrangement of branched staminodes surrounding the true stamens. Most of the leaves are basal and heart-shaped, on long stalks, but there is also a single leaf that clasps the stem. The fruit is a single capsule which contains many seeds.
LEAVES : Basal, heart-shaped, with a single clasping stem leaf.
PLANT HEIGHT : 10–30cm.
FLOWER SIZE : 1.5–3cm wide.
FRUIT : Capsule that splits into four.
FLOWERING TIME : June–September.
SIMILAR SPECIES : Meadow Saxifrage , which has lobed, toothed leaves.
