The short-stalked leaves of Marsh Cinquefoil are pinnately divided into 5–7 serrated leaflets. The distinctive flower has prominent, deep maroon or purplish sepals; the crimson petals are much smaller. The central core of immature achenes is surrounded by dark stamens.
LEAVES : Alternate, 5–7 oblong, serrated leaflets with papery stipules at leaf stalk base.
PLANT HEIGHT : 30–50cm.
FLOWER SIZE : 2–3cm wide.
FRUIT : Head of achenes surrounded by persistent calyx.
FLOWERING TIME : May–July.
SIMILAR SPECIES : None.
