Prickly Saltwort

Prickly Saltwort
LEAVES : Alternate, linear to oval, succulent, spine-tipped.

PLANT HEIGHT : 20–80cm.

FLOWER SIZE : 2–3mm wide.

FRUIT : Achene covered by flower parts.

FLOWERING TIME : July–October.

SIMILAR SPECIES : Butcher's Broom , which has dull green flowers.

Prickly SaltwortPrickly Saltwort recognizable by the sharp spine on the tip of each leaf, unusual for a plant that is out of reach of grazing animals. The plant is succulent, much branched, and bluish green. The tiny flowers, hidden at the base of the fleshy leaves, may have a pinkish tinge.
